Our strong relationship to the land and the tradition led us to choose two native varieties of our land and, specifically, of Western Sicily.
The Perricone is a red grape variety, which has been called Pignateddu since the 19th century, when it was cultivated in the provinces of Trapani and Palermo. With the arrival of new “grape varieties” and the different market trends, which were more focused on the quantity rather than on the quality, it was extinguished. There are only few grapes left now, which were used to start new cultivations and to have a stronger and more powerful grape variety.
In our small way, we would like to give the Pignateddu what it deserves: a bottle and the chance to delight the palates of the most demanding wine lovers who want to drink Sicilian wines.
Intense ruby colour. Purely vinified to guarantee the elegance of the noblest wines with rare olfactory organoleptic properties, which are peculiar to the territory. It has a strong personality and a precious spicy flavour to the nose, with juniper and black pepper. The textureis balanced by the classic red berries, with pervasive perfumes of marasca cherries and jam, plums and cherries. It is elegant to the mouth, with a solid and smooth tannic base, a wide palate with a good alcoholic content and long-lasting persistence. It is full-bodied, dry, with almond finish. The Pignatteddu is perfect with vegetable soups, charcuterie, aged cheeses and red meats, also with elaborated recipese.
The first sure traces of Grillo, another important white grape variety from Sicily, date back to the end of the 19th century, when it was called Riddu. The Grillo has been present in the province of Trapani for a long time and used as a basic grape variety to vinifyMarsala wine. In 1930 it represented almost 60% of the lands grown with grapes. In the latest years, there has been a rebirth of this grape variety, with more interest towards quality vinification processes.
Riddu is purely vinified and gives a strong straw yellow colour; it has herbal and floral perfumes and aromas to the nose with jasmine notes and citrus flavours.
It is round and smooth at the same time. It is perfect with fried, grilled or cooked fish and shellfish with pasta and risotto dishes. It is also excellent with fish and vegetables appetizers.
